Secrets Of Treasure Hunters

It is true that treasure hunters know a few things the rest of us don't usually know. They are familiar with common hiding places where people put their valuables and money, for example. They know the usual locations for buried treasure. More generally, they know that we humans like to hide things far more often than most suspect, and that many of us die without ever revealing to a soul what we have hidden or where.

Still, there is more to being a treasure hunter than having a bit of special knowledge. So if you want to start your own hunt for hidden and buried treasure, don't think that reading a few books on the subject will be enough. You also have to develop the right mind set. Patience is a requirement, for example, or you'll never dig up those fifty almost-worthless pennies just to finally find one old and valuable one.

You also have to think a certain way. You'll need the ability to mentally put yourself in the past and also in the head of the person who hides something, in order to guess where it is buried or otherwise hidden. It will also help to habitually think about how to apply and expand what you learn from one treasure hunt to the next ones.

Secrets Of Treasure Hunters

To help along those lines, here are some of the ways to find treasure, the "tricks of the trade." These examples each suggest something useful to apply in other areas. They are essentially short lessons from and for treasure hunters.

Hidden In Rivers

When we were children, my friends and I occasionally saw bicycles in rivers. We never really knew why they were there, but I later learned it was because rivers are easy places to hide things, very useful knowledge for thieves. They were likely stolen and dumped there. Criminals throw things off of bridges routinely, because it is a fast way to get rid of incriminating evidence.

I have read about one treasure hunter who makes a living from this criminal habit. With magnets and other tools he retrieves guns, money, and other things of value from the bottom of murky rivers. Using a tube with a window at the bottom (his own design) and a waterproof flashlight strapped to the outside, he pushes it down into the water to see clearly what is at the bottom. Someday you might see a person with a strange reverse periscope floating in his rowboat, and it may be this man.

To develop a treasure hunting mentality, you should be thinking about where you can try this and what else you can learn from the story. Perhaps a good waterproof metal detector could be used to locate valuables in rivers (most are waterproof up to a certain point anyhow). You should expand on the idea and ask yourself what other things get dropped in water and where - whether or not on purpose. Lake bottoms near docks might be a good place to search, for example.

Coffee Can Treasures

It has been and probably still is common to bury things in coffee cans out in the yard or behind the barn or wherever. You probably have heard of this, but have you ever thought about how to use that knowledge to find such stashes? Here's one way: If you're looking around an old house or homestead look for empty coffee cans in sheds or barns. They were possibly being saved to bury things in. Consider too that although paper money can't be detected with a metal detector, the cans can be.

Then, as you look around the target area, consider where you would bury a can full of cash. Note where you could dig without being noticed, or where the ground is easier to dig up? What locations could be more easily remembered? Consider these things as if you are the one burying the valuables, and you'll start to develop an intuition about where to hunt for treasure

There are many more secrets to learn, but also develop the patience to keep searching. Mel Fischer searched sixteen years to find the "Atocha Mother Lode," valued at $450 million dollars, so you can try for sixteen more minutes before setting down that metal detector. Learn your lessons from each search and think about how to apply and expand on what you learned. That's how you develop the mind set of a treasure hunter

Boating Holiday is Remarkable

Ever felt that your usual means of relaxing, be it hitting the bars, seeing movies, playing sports or games, have also become routinary as to be ineffective? Have you felt that the rare ones like Auckland harbour cruises, spelunking,  and world tours, are simply too expensive? Well, good news! A boating holiday will give you just as much funny without being spend too much. In fact, it can cost you almost nothing at all.

Ideas for a Boating Vacation

Vacations are essentially meant to remove you from your routine, via a change of environment and activities. Therefore, a vacation destination very different from familiar surroundings, people and activities is best. This is something a boating holiday can offer to you.

Think about easy drifting down a river with a friend. You see nature at its basic best: deer drinking at the bank, a tortoise sunning on a log, trees changing color in autumn. Peace, silence and harmony are everywhere. They ease your psyche and soothe your mind. You feel tranquility in your soul. Is this Nirvana? No, it is a boating vacation.

As you eat your lunch in the shade of some hackberry trees, a curious fish comes up near the bank to investigate a morsel you dropped in the water inadvertently. Would you still remember the installment on the car that is soon due in such a situation?

Or, you are with your family in a houseboat. The sun set is coming, and you all sit on the boat’s roof to look it. Suddenly a fish leaps out of the water, silhouetted by the copper sun. The picture may be there for just a second, but its magic will last forever in you and your children’s memory. This kind of magic is what a boating holiday is all about.

No Plans

A boating holiday should not be scheduled. Beyond the requirements of food, clothing, shelter and safety, it should be free of any regimen. Spontaneity and freedom should be the hallmarks of any activity, the members of the trip having license to do what they want to do within reason. After all, a boating vacation is just like any vacation in terms of fun and enjoyment, therefore treat it as such.

Just Go!

So look up that boat you wish to purchase, or a friend’s you want to borrow. Spruce it up, prepare the gear you need to take, and when the great day comes, just get up and go! Hit the river or the lake with your pal, your mate, or your family. Go and enjoy that charter boat in auckland harbour that will ease your mind, and make you want to do it again soon, perhaps very soon.

Why now is the best time to travel

Everyone dreams of traveling but most people don’t do it. Fear keeps most people from traveling. When I first went away in 2006, people always wished they could do what I was doing. For some people it is easy to just jump ship and travel. We have it in us all along and we just need a gentle nudge. I told everyone I was going to travel after one great trip overseas. For others it is a lot harder. They are more tied down, more afraid, more uncertain. They want to do it but, instead the nudge I needed, they need a full on push.

If you are looking for reason, here aremgood reasons to travel around the world:

There’s a recession. With the world economy in a tailspin and companies slashing jobs, there is a lot of economic uncertainty in the world. Avoid it all. Go travel. If you quit your job, sell your stuff and travel, you won’t have to worry about it. In fact, prices are dropping as the tourist industry tries harder to get people to go overseas. Come back when people start hiring again. Let others worry while you go out and have fun.

You meet a lot of people. There is not a day that doesn’t go by where you don’t meet people from all over the world doing the same thing you are. You’ll meet locals who will take you around and open their homes and city to you. What more can you ask for in life than meeting wonderful people and creating a network of friends that encompasses the globe.

It’s better than working. Working is work. Sitting behind a desk for eight hours, commuting to work, worrying about bosses and reports is not our idea of a good time. Let’s face it, between worrying about next month’s budget or sitting on a beach in Asia, everyone would choose the beach. So why are you behind your desk?

You learn about other cultures. The world is a big place and globalization has made it much more complex and interconnected. You’ll never begin to understand all the other players in the world or why people do what they do by sitting at home. Traveling will teach you about other cultures and people and make them more than just a face on the news.

You find out about yourself. Travel helps you figure out what makes you you and what you really like or dislike. Alone, you must suceed. You have to adapt to your surroundings, meet other people, make your own decisions, and plan your life. You’ll make everyone jealous. Let’s face it- everyone wants to travel the world but few people do. Do it and make everyone at home jealous of you, your stories, and your photos. While they work all day, you explore the world.

Because, like Yoda said, do or do not. Why spend your life thinking about what might be when you can just do it. It’s not that hard to travel you just have to have the will to do it. Don’t live life with regrets- get up and get going. NO ONE ever regrets a trip like this. NO ONE. T

raveling around the world is a life changing experience. There’s no reason not to go. There is no big secret on why to go. Leave. Even if it’s for a week, or a month, or a year. See the world. You only get one chance [at life]. Make it worthwhile.

How To Think Like An Ultralight Backpacker

What goes on in the mind of an ultralight backpacker? A reporter for a backpacking magazine asked me this in a  recent interview. I've gone backpacking in winter conditions with as little as eleven pounds total on my back, so I do think light. In fact, there are some basic questions that seem to automatically come to mind when I am either planning a backpacking trip or looking at gear. I suspect other lightweight backpackers ask themselves the same things.

1. How do I make it lighter?

Habitually ask this of every item you bring. Foam sleeping pads can be trimmed, a stuff sack could be left behind if the sleeping bag can just be stuffed directly into the pack. Shortening a toothbrush and cutting the edges off maps won't lighten the load much, but modify enough different items, and the weight savings can add up to a pound or two.

2. Is there a lighter alternative?

This is where you really save weight, especially if you start with the "big three;" sleeping bag, shelter and backpack. Buying new gear may be necessary, but you can also find the lightest choice among the things you already own. Pick out your lightest t-shirts, for example, or take your light tarp for a short trip, instead of a tent. This can make a big difference in how light you go. Many years ago, I went from a 88-ounce (5 1/2 pound) backpack to a 14-ounce one, and from a three-pound sleeping bag to a one-pound one.

3. What can I leave behind?

"Do I really need to bring this?" Ask that of each item. One shirt may be enough, for example. Ask, "will I use it?" For several trips I carried a small chess set, but never used it. If with a group, see if someone else in the party has an item you are considering. A group of three only needs one stove. Not sure if you can leave something behind? The last three questions may help you find an answer.

4. Are there multiple-use items I can use to cut weight?

If I cook at all (unusual), my pan is my bowl, and my spoon is my fork. Some ponchos can be used as a shelter. A trekking pole can be the support for a tarp shelter or even some tents. The stuff-sack from your sleeping bag can be filled with clothing to use as a pillow. Find ways to use the things you have for more than one purpose, and buy things that have multiple purposes. This is classic ultralight backpacker thinking.

5. Are there strategies can I use to lighten the load?

An extreme example: eat a low-carbohydrate diet for a few days, then load up on pasta the day before a trip. In this way you can store up to a couple pounds of extra carbs in your body, so you won't need to carry as much food. Called "carbo-loading," it's been used by endurance athletes for decades. Another strategy: plan according to the weather report. If no rain is predicted, you can leave the rain gear behind, or bring just the top. In an area with many water sources, you can carry just a one-pint plastic soda bottle, if you fill it up every time you come to a stream or lake.

6. What skills and habits can I work on?

This is partly about learning survival skills. Why? Because being at home in the wilderness makes it safer to go lighter. If, for example, you know how to make a warm bed of dried leaves and grass, it's safe to try that light sleeping bag which otherwise might not be quite warm enough for you. Being able to identify and eat wild edible plants makes it safer to carry less food. In fact, if with sufficient survival skills, an ultralight backpacker can be prepared for almost anything.

Finding Cheap Hotels In Las Vegas

las vegas

A Las Vegas vacation can cost a fortune. You and your spouse roll into town feeling like high-rollers, dropping $200/night for the hotel room, $100 on dinner, $50 on lunch, $25 on breakfast, $225 to see Cirque du Soleil, $50 at the bar and then maybe a few hands of Texas hold' em. Before you place a single bet, you've already spent $650 in one day! If your vacation spans the whole week, you're in for some real trouble. So to be realistic, you should decide where your money will be best spent. For some, they'd rather stay in one of the cheap hotels and spend their money on entertainment instead. After all, sleeping is just recharging your batteries, right?

First of all, if you're not fussy about when you travel to Las Vegas, then you can find cheap deals at hotels that are otherwise very expensive, but they just happen to have vacancies. Weekdays are half the price of weekends. The two weeks before Christmas (after the December rodeo and before the 25th) are a steal. Also, January is a good travel time because most people are nursing New Year's Eve hangovers and paying off Christmas bills. The middle of summer in July or August will offer lower rates too because some people just hate the heat, although the savvy traveler knows that every place is air conditioned on the Las Vegas strip! When you call a hotel, be sure to ask specifically if they have any specials going on. It's one of those secret traveler hotel tips that could save you a ton; ask and ye shall receive!

If you're the online, cheap hotels bargain hunter type, then try the following sites: www.travelworm.com, www.hotelclub.net, www.hotelscheap.org and www.hoteldiscounts.com. This site, www.lasvegasdirect.com was advertising rooms at the MGM Grand for $79, which is pretty reasonable. At www.lasvegas.com, you can book at The Stratosphere, Palace Station or The Tropicana for $30-$37/night. Also, www.travels.com has rooms as low as $23, such as at the Las Vegas Club Casino & Hotel, as well as a number of under-$40 options. At www.orbitz.com you will find that Circus Circus has rooms for $36 and Harrah's for $57, as well as nice off-strip locations for as low as $27. The best way to shop online is to book in advance, but find a site that allows you to cancel, if need be. This website, www.kayak.com, is also a great resource because it allows you to peruse 140+sites at once to hunt for the best deals.

If you're looking for cheap hotels but secretly pine to stay at a Vegas hotel like the Bellagio Hotel or another luxury resort-casino, then you'll be surprised to learn there are deep discounts at even the nicest Las Vegas Strip properties! You can consider it a reward for booking directly through the hotel website, rather than going to one of the competitive online discount sites. Usually, these offers are very limited, so bargain hunting may require an obsessive love for internet perusing and lucky timing. Right now, The Mirage is offering rooms for as low as $77/night and Chef Paul at The Wynn Hotel is offering $200 in free food for a $199/night stay. The MGM Grand has deals for $79/night now, where you receive a pair of free drinks by the pool and a $25 entertainment credit. Mandalay Bay is offering "Stay three nights, get one free" and New York-New York has a promotional package for $89 that includes a dazzling view, 2 welcome cocktails, 2-for-1 breakfast, $15 off a spa treatment, a $10 Free Play,a $5 Starbucks credit and a 2-for-1 rollercoaster pass. The Monte Carlo offers spa, golf and dining credits with a $69/night stay and the Paris Hotel has offers as low as $79/night. Check out www.visitlasvegas.com for a full list of current promotions.

How Cardiff Airport has Developed

Cardiff Airport Landing in a Robin Light Aircraft

Today, Cardiff airport handles around 1.9 million passengers who are able to travel from Cardiff to over 60 destinations. The airport provides everything one might expect from a popular international travel hub.

The history of Cardiff International airport extends back over 6 years. From 1931 to 1954 the original Cardiff airport operated at Pengam Moors in Cardiff bay but, in 1941, the wartime Air Ministry requisitioned land in the rural Vale of Glamorgan and work began to establish a fully operational wartime airfield and important training base for RAF Spitfire pilots.

It wasn't until the war was over that, like many other wartime airfields, the commercial potential of Cardiff was recognised. Aer lingus started a service flying to and from Dublin in 1952 and this was followed by further airport development in the form of a new airport building. As the holiday charter market expanded in the early 1960s additional destinations were added including France, Belfast and Cork and so the passenger figures increased.

The Ministry of Defence retained control of the airport right up until the mid-1960s. It wasn't until 1965 that control was transferred to Glamorgan County Council. Local government reorganisation during the 1970s resulted in transfer of airport ownership to the three local county councils of South, Mid and West Glamorgan. In 1995, local government reorganisation led to the privatisation of the Cardiff Airport Company with shares sold to TBI Plc., a Welsh property and development firm.

1971 Saw the first transatlantic flight from Cardiff and this was followed by further development including the current airport terminal building and control tower. The single airport runway was extended to 7,000 feet to accommodate larger bodied aircraft. New routes were being established all the time including regular transatlantic flights between Cardiff to Canada. These transatlantic links were further developed during the 1980s with charter flights to Florida as well as Canada.

Another runway extension of 750 feet, carried out in the 1980s, enabled the airport to handle 747 jumbo jets. This attracted the British Airways maintenance facility to be located at Cardiff International Airport. Their hangar is one of the largest of its kind in the world supporting aircraft engineering maintenance for British Airways and other airlines.

Passenger figures at Cardiff International Airport have continued to increase and a number of further development projects, designed to increase capacity and efficiency at the airport terminal, have been completed. In 2007 figures showed that Cardiff airport had exceeded 2 million annual passengers. The annual growth rate of 14% makes Cardiff the UKs fastest growing regional airport.

5 Jet Lag Remedies

Jet lag, for those who don't know, is the effect of time zone differences that travellers must contend with. It is defined as:

"A physiological condition which is a consequence of alterations to circadian rhythms"

The effects of jet lag can vary. Some will suffer a few days of restless sleep whereas others may experience loss in appetite, headaches, constipation, anxiety and dizziness. Luckiliy there are things you can try which will alleviate jet lag and the effects lessened. Here are a few ideas:

Tasimelteon: This is a new drug developed by Elizabeth Klerman of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston along with researchers from Vanda Pharmaceuticals, Maryland. Tests have shown that those taking the drug were far better able to fall asleep when compared with others who had not taken the drug. It is understood that Tasimeteon stimulates the effects of Melatonin, the hormone known to be responsible for regulating sleep.

Melatonin: The hormone Melatonin is now a popular remedy for sleep related problems. Melatonin supplements can be purchased (in the United States) without a prescription. Melatonin research has presented a clear association with sleep and supplements that provide 0.1 to 0.5 milligrams of the hormone can be beneficial.

Fasting: Minimising the amount of food you consume before embarking on your flight can help lessen the effects of jet lag. Studies have shown that, when food is scarce, the normal biological clock may be overridden by another internal clock. A period of fasting, for about 16 hours before taking a flight, should be enough to switch the new biological clock into action and alleviate the effects of jet lag.

Orange Tinted Sun-glasses: It has long been known that Melatonin secretion in humans can be stimulated by light. Blue light has been found to provoke a decrease in Melatonin production. Its therefore reasonable to expect that wearing orange tinted sunglasses will encourage Melatonin secretion.

Toe Scrunching:
Some travellers have reported that spending a few minutes tightly curling their toes while standing on a carpet or towel, just before going to bed, has a beneficial effect on jet lag. Some have reported that exercising in this way for between 2 and 5 minutes has had an immediate beneficial effect on their ability to get off to sleep.

Last Minute Hotel Deals Offer Cost Effective Travel

Sometimes, constraints in your schedule may necessitate making last minute hotel bookings. This doesn’t mean you have to pay a high price or settle for the worst accommodations whilst traveling. If you look hard enough, you can get last minute hotel deals. These deals still let you sleep in comfort but at the same time are cost effective. A flight and hotel booking within the one travel package is sometimes a cheaper option under normal conditions. To make your last minute travel plans even more cost effective, if you are prepared to put in a little extra effort, this is the time to book your flight and hotel separately.

Needless to say, it would be difficult to get last minute hotel deals during peak seasons or in travel destinations that crowds of people frequent on certain times of the year. During these peak times, many travelers and tourists are looking to get rooms, and hotels regularly raise their prices due to the high increase in demand. It is much easier finding last minute hotel deals during the low seasons. Hotels are quite willing to give low prices for their rooms, even on last minute bookings, in order to fill up their rooms.

You may have to look into a number of hotels and travel agencies to find the best last minute hotel deals. Remember you can always choose to get a hotel room, as it doesn't have to be the one the travel agent who booked your flight recommends to you. Compare prices and choose the one that offers the lowest price with the least of the inconveniences that sometimes go with last minute travel planning.

If your stay in the motel is minimal through most of the day, then finding a deal with hotels undergoing some sort of construction or refurbishment is another cost saving option. These hotels are usually more agreeable to reduce their room rates below that of other hotels, as there are very few people prepared to stay in a hotel undergoing any sort of construction.

Don’t forget to find out check-in and checkout schedules. Before you accept any of the last minute hotel deals, make sure that the hotels check-in time corresponds with your flight arrival, and the checkout time not too far from your departure. You may be able to save a lot on these deals, but if their check-in and checkout schedules means waiting for hours, then the inconvenience and waste of time may not be worth it.

As with all travel plans, there are ways to save money and plans made at the last minute can be cost effective when searching for last minute hotel deals.

Backpacking Without Foot Blisters

Nothing can ruin a hike or backpacking trip as quickly as foot blisters. The pain can be intense, and walking further on blistered feet can cause them to get worse, or to break and get infected. So how do you just avoid them altogether? Here are ten things that have worked for others.

1. Wear running shoes instead of hiking boots. Not everyone will agree with this, nor can everyone forgo the extra support that a boot offers, but this is a big part of what stopped me from getting blisters. I also enjoy hiking much more without heavy weights on my feet.

2. Try different socks. Wearing light nylon dress socks was another of the best changes I made. Blisters are caused in part by heat, so heavy boots and socks add to the problem. Try a couple different kinds, to see what works best for you.

3. Be sure your shoes or hiking boots fit properly, with no spots that will be rubbing on your toes, the back of your heel or the side of your foot. Not sure how to fit your shoes? Go to a footwear store where serious runners go.

4. Treat "hot spots" early. If you feel an irritation or hot spot on your foot, stop and apply some moleskin before it becomes a blister. Duct tape may work as well, if that is all you have (but it can be messy to remove later, and if a blister develops it may tear it open when you try to remove the tape). Small bandages can be used too.

5. Lace up your shoes well. When shoes are loose your foot can slide around inside, and the resulting friction can lead to foot blisters, so lace up well. Tighten the laces evenly along the shoe, not just at the top.

6. Keep your shoes clean and comfortable. Shake them out before putting them on. Stop to remove sticks, stones or other objects promptly. Adjust your socks if there are wrinkles or seams against the bottom of your feet.

7. Try insoles. Some people swear by their "gel" insoles. Even cheap foam ones may help keep your feet more comfortable. Also, if foot movement inside the shoes is causing blisters, an insole may make your foot more snug, preventing this. Experiment.

8. Bring extra socks, and change them often. If you use light socks as suggested above, this is easy to do, even on a lightweight backpacking trip (my socks are one-ounce per pair). Changing into clean cool socks is a pleasure, and it also helps prevent foot blisters. You can rinse out the dirty socks in a stream and hang them on your pack to dry, so you will be ready for the next switch.

9. Take care of your feet at home. Prior to any hike, deal with athlete's foot or other skin conditions that can soften or weaken the skin. Healthy feet are less likely to develop blisters on the trail.

10. Remove shoes and socks during breaks. When I reach the top of a mountain, I try to go barefoot for a while. I recommend taking your shoes and socks off several times during a day of hiking. This allows your feet to cool, and your socks and shoes to air out and dry. Keeping your feet cool and dry is a sure way to prevent foot blisters when hiking.

Follow the foot care tips here for healthier, happier feet. But if you do get foot blisters, here is the treatment routine: Apply a piece of moleskin with a hole cut out for the blister to rest in. This keeps pressure off the spot, so it won't get worse. You generally shouldn't pop blisters, but if you do, sterilize a pin with alcohol or a flame and insert it from the skin along the bottom of one edge. Push out the fluid gently, cover the blister and keep it clean.

A Guide to Florida Holidays

Florida is one of the most popular North American destinations for Brits abroad.  This is because of the high temperatures, it's proximety on the America East Coast and the extensive amount of visitor attractions.  Although most commonly associated with family vacations, Florida has a plethora of activities that are suitable for adults.  Below we have outlined some of the major locations that you can take a Florida Holiday.

Gulf Coast

One of the most popular areas for those seeking a Florida Holiday, the Gulf Coast offers sizzling temperatures that peak to over 34 degrees centrigrade as well as miles of glorious white sandy beaches.  Some of the popular areas include Tampa Bay, Treasure Island, St.Petersburgh and Naples

Orlando

The state capital and epicentre of Florida Holiday attractions.  Located inland, Orlando is home to some of the most famous attractions in the US including Walt Disney World, Seaworld, Universal Studios and the Magic Kingdom.  No trip to Florida would be complete without a trip to at least one of these iconic attractions. Even if you're not planning staying in Orlando for the duration of your trip, consider a taking Florida twin centre holiday, staying in one of the many popular hotels in Orlando for a night or two while you enjoy all the area has to offer, before continuing your moving on to see more of Florida.

East Coast

Much like the Golf Coast, the East Coast has plenty of white sandy beaches to enjoy.  Some of the major attractions include Cape Kennedy, Miami and Daytona Beaches.  Miami beach is famous for hosting a number of events including the Winter Music Dance festival.  Daytona beach stretches over 17 miles and hosts the world famous Daytona 500 race in February of each year.

Florida Keys

The Florida keys are famed for fishing with the opportunity to hire a boat for the day and fish for giant Marlin! Aside from fishing the area is also popular with scuba divers.  The most common method of arriving at the Keys is to book a Fly Drive package deal and drive down from either Orlando, Miami or Daytona.

The Truth About 5 Star Accommodation

So you have decided to go on one of your long and hard earned family holidays and are looking through your brochure to see what sort of great deals you can get. After days of sifting through pages and pages of hotels you finally turn the page to see your dream location a great 5 star hotel with a luxurious pool and activities throughout the day. You quickly grab the phone and book your trip.

A few months pass by, and the date of your trip is finally here. So you pack your suitcases, get the family ready and head for the airport. All the anxiety and excitement kicks in and your right for it to do so, you have been waiting a whole year and working hard to fund this trip. You then step off the aeroplane or boat and head for your hotel. The coach driver pulls over to one side and you wonder what is happening, he then announces we have arrived at our destination you look out of the nearby window and see your so called 5 star hotel. The entire place looks as if it has not had a renovation for years and then you enter the hotel and be asked to go and get some food before the buffet finishes, you notice that there are bugs and wasps landing all over your food.

So you are asking yourself how can this be a 5 star hotel. Then you cast your mind back and remember that you have never heard. You try to look for a rep, but with noone around you realise you are in the holiday from hell.

So what can you do to help this problem so it does not occur in the future again? Firstly you should research well before booking any sort of holiday with a tour operator, check to see if they are APTA regulated, if they are not you should steer well clear. Check to see if there are any reviews both in the brochure and online. The internet is a user generated world and people speak there minds so if something is good or bad you are sure to hear about it.

Every so often people visit the holiday from hell. The only way to avoid sadness is to research and then research some more. There's nothing worse than to be stuck in a foreign country with no help and no money.

What Animals Can You Expect to See on Safari?

Anyone in the world dreams of going on a safari adventure, but it is not so far away from becoming a reality. Now more than ever travel agents are offering a wide range of Safari Holidays at very affordable rates. So you have made up your mind to go on safari, but what can you expect to see?

Heres a few animals that you may be likely to meet.

First and foremost there is the large animals, there will be a whole variety of them and you are bound to see the common Giraffes, Oryx and Plains Zebras, they are great and you will come across them probably hundreds of times on your trip. But you should want to catch a glimpse of the smaller and rare animals.

In Africa there are around 300 different bird species to come across. Some animals and creatures are dangerous so be on the lookout. Also make sure that you check to see if you need any jabs before you leave.

What You Should Carry?

After deciding to go on Safari, you have to then turn your mind to what you are actually going to pack. You will probably be dropped off in a vehicle so you could pack a few bits and bobs into the boot. You will be taking a long stride when leaving the vehicle, so be sure to only pack essentials such as drinks and cameras. Do not end up bringing an endless amount of clothes on your journey. The reason I say this is because carrying a heavy bag in the heat will only make the walk a misery. Sometimes it's so hot that you will not even want to wear much.

Depending on the safari adventure you have chosen, you may have some nice accommodation to stay in such as a lodge or hotel. If you have decided to take the wildlife package then you may want to set up camp. So the provider's should really supply you with some tents.

If you are there to experience the full impact I do recommend in camping, there is nothing more enjoyable than finding your way to your camp site and then creating a fire to heat the air up and then finally waking up in the morning and finding your way to a waterfall to freshen up. Holidays to Africa are great for the whole family.

The perfect holiday for christmas

With Christmas just around the corner and winter most definitely upon us maybe its time to start thinking about taking a break in these winter months. Time seems to go so slow around this time, the nights are long and its to cold to go anywhere. More and more people are choosing to spend the holiday season abroad with cheaper flights, warmer weather and the chance to do something a little bit different at Christmas. This is all well and good but many will miss the family time together and the chance to catch up with people you haven't seen ll year. One other option could be to look at staying in this country, for example there are some lovely holiday cottages in Sussex which are available all year round, they are very cosy and welcoming, real log fires, beautiful surroundings and many places to visit. Many people may prefer this time of holiday as it means they can even just go for a long weekend and still get to see their family and friends. This may not get you away from all the cold weather over the winter time but it can be a real family treat to go and stay in a old cottage with the traditional setting that many feel is more homely than 2 weeks away on a tropical beach. There are a wide range of locations and spending the holidays in Sussex is a wonderful way to spend a few days over Christmas.
Regardless of whether you want to enjoy the beauty of the clasping mountains or if you want to waggle your toes at the sandy beaches or simply want to enjoy the nameless seethe of the flowers, cottage holidays are for you. You can unwind yourself amidst the pulsating shimmer of the tawny moon and give you and your family a perfect romantic getaway at the holiday cottage during your summer holiday.

Activities After New Year

Christmas is fast approaching us and it will soon pass. Schools will be breaking up soon as well as people getting a hard earned break from work. Christmas is a great festive season for more than one reason to be honest, lets just take a brief look at why:

1) You get to spend time with the family, time that has been lost throughout the year.
2) You get to have a break and relax. You have worked hard throughout the year and your company closes on Christmas.
3) Catch up on all your favourite programs and movies over the festive period.

But once Christmas and New Year is over people start to go into a state of depression again. They look outside and it is cold and dark and they really have nothing to look forward too. But this is where people go wrong. There is plenty to look forward too. Let us look at what you can do to cheer yourself up.

1) It's a new year meaning a new start; all of your top times of the year will come around again such as seasons, Easter and Halloween not to discuss your preferred Television shows.
Schedule your trip, now is the best time to book. You can get great deals on Caribbean holidays, cruises and many more luxury holidays.
3) Your birthday will come around again, a new year means a new birthday for you, start making plans early on so everything falls into place.
4) Do some shopping for Christmas! Yes that's right, do your Christmas shopping in the January sales, you are bound to save yourself a fortune on gifts. You could also save a fortune on Christmas decorations.
5) Plan more family days together. If the reason you love Christmas is because all the family get together, then what's stopping you organising a weekend together. I am sure that when you initially you plan things correctly
6) If you are a tech fanatic then you can look forward to a whole new set of gadgets and gizmos in the upcoming year, ranging from mobile phones to sound systems and more.

As you can see there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful for the New Year, once Christmas day has finished do not get upset, open your eyes and look forwards.

Choosing The Right Private Jet Company When Traveling Is Crucial

jet travel

A private jet company can be the perfect means of transportation for individuals who are traveling for business reasons. Many companies choose to use private planes for sending their employees to destinations around the world. While it may seem that these luxury private jets would be more for jet setting around the world for personal reasons, businesses actually use this means of travel quite often, as it allows them to save time and in many cases, money.

Flying is one of the most convenient ways of getting from point A to B these days. That is why we see a lot of different private jet charter companies to choose from, which are all equipped and ever ready to accommodate the demands of their clients. One of the most popular companies is Ocean Sky. The Ocean Sky private charter service offers you serenity and relaxation while you are onboard. They promise you a hassle-free traveling experience, all designed to cater to your personal requirements.

Ocean Sky has a well-trained and professional staff to assist you and you are guaranteed an enjoyable, safe and secured travel experience, thus leaving you refreshed and relaxed once you have arrived at your point of destination. For their avid customers, Ocean Sky can provide their clients with what they call a block hours program, which is tailored according to the whim of the customers. All in all, when you fly with Ocean Sky, it is like owning your very own private jet. The company has business partners all across major locations that can provide you with helicopter or limousine transfers, exclusive accommodations and restaurant reservations, and even access to the hottest night spots in town.

You may also want to look into hiring a private jet broker who will help you find the right private jet company for your jet travel needs. One of the leaders in the private jet broker industry is the Blue Star Jets company. This company has worked hard to provide its clients with the type of travel accommodations that they desire. They believe in client freedoms and giving their clients the ability to virtually control the flight.

A private jet company gives their clients options to consider for their future business trips. While there are a lot of choices and companies available to serve you, make sure to discuss your requirements with their agents. That way, you can easily make arrangements for a relaxing flight. Who would have thought that flying could be this luxurious and relaxing? With private jet companies, you will not have to worry much the next time you need to fly.

A Good Knife Can Save Your Life

Knife Design Philosophy

If you have ever seen any of the Bear Grylls 'Born Survivor' TV series or Ray Mears 'Extreme Survival' you will have noticed how both Bear and Ray always carry a good quality knife.

Knives have been used since the stone age when man made remarkably effective and sharp cutting tools from flint and obsidian. The knife is both a practical tool and a frighteningly effective weapon. They've been receiving a lot of bad press lately due to the frequency of violent knife crime in our towns and cities.

But knives are not bad, unlike some of the idiots who carry them. They are practical and essential tools that, in the outdoors or a survival situation, you would be glad to have.

When camping out a knife can be used in any number of ways including:

  • Cutting branches for fire wood
  • Preparing kindling
  • Cutting rope or string
  • Making tent pegs
  • Skinning rabbits
  • Preparing food
  • Almost everything...

It's always a good idea to select the most suitable knife for the job. The swiss-army knife is a good example of a practical, versatile knife that comes in a variety of models with a bewildering selection of tools for almost any situation. But a good, strong, sharp knife blade is a fundamental requirement.

Knives that are good for camping and survival don't necessarily need to be particularly large. Ideally the knife should have a stainless steel blade that will not corrode and will hold and good sharp edge. Your selected knife can have a fixed or folding blade. Knives with folding blades should ideally lock when the blade is exposed to prevent accidents. The knife should have an appropriate handle that is comfortable in your hand. The knife blade should have a good sharp point and the handle may have a strong rear bolster (the bit at the end of the handle) which can be used for hammering or cracking nuts.

If you favour a fixed blade knife it will need a suitable sheath that, ideally, you can mount on your belt. To keep your knife blade sharp you will need a suitable whetstone. For fishing and hunting, you may like to equip yourself with a knife that has a partially serrated edge, ideal for cutting through bone.

Whatever you choose a knife is an essential part of your camping equipment. While you may be arrested for carrying one in the city streets you would be a fool to venture far outdoors without one.

Wilderness First Aid

Backpacking is challenging and exciting.  It is meant to be an adventure, but in order to be safe and ensure it is fun you should have a basic knowledge of wilderness first aid.  Planning involves some simple preparation before a trip.  Your plan should be well thought out and prepare you for every possible surprise the outdoors can throw your way.  By being properly prepared you will be able to focus on the actually joy of backpacking rather than worrying about the technical details once you get on the trail.

Your backpacking plan really has to do with staying safe.  You should have maps of your planned route so you know exactly what to expect.  You should also check out the predicted weather.  If you are not comfortable with any part of your route or with the weather predictions then consider changing your plans.  You should always trust your inner feelings or gut instinct because it is usually right.  You should also be prepared for any weather changes.  You need to really plan out each leg of your journey and include alternatives in case something does not work out.  Your actual plan should be a map marked with your stopping points and labeled to show when you will be walking each area.

One of the biggest parts of first aid is prevention.  You should understand what you can do to prevent accidents.  This will go a long way to helping keep you safe on the trail.  You should always make sure your equipment is in good shape.  You also need to wear protective gear.  Have a good plan for your backpacking trip and tell someone about it so they can be aware if you should become missing.  You should learn about poisonous plants so you know what to avoid.  You should also learn about basic survival skills.

You can not prevent everything, though, so you should also learn basic first aid.  One of the biggest things is to try to keep all supplies sanitary.  This includes trying to clean hands as best as possible before treating a wound or injury.  Bacteria grows quickly and once it is introduced to an injury things can get worse quickly.  You should take a first aid course to brush up on the basics, so if you should veer need them you know them.

A Tour Through Valletta

If the words interesting and intriguing are part of your travel plans, then consider Malta as the perfect travel destination. You'll find plenty of budget hotels, and the mid range hotels provide great facilities for the price. They are clean, and well presented, and many are located a short distance from the historical city center.

In many ways, Malta is like a living museum, where a lot of the old buildings are still in use today. In fact, according to one traveler, the ghosts aren't exactly buried, although its doubtful you would see them during the day as you enjoy the old walks where the Knights once galloped by. Malta is a beautiful city that effortlessly presents the best of their history with the conveniences and pleasures of modern life. You'll find top restaurants, and excellent musical and dramatic productions.

Walking Tours In Valletta

If you do go to Malta, you really should take a walking tour in Valetta. The walking tours are either DIY with a recording which you buy beforehand, or escorted, and show you all the historical and scenic places of interest in Valletta. You'll see the Auberge de Castile, Upper Barracca Gardens, and the Palazzo Parisio, amongst others.

Continuing with the Valetta, Malta walking tour you'll see excellent examples of Neo-classic and Roman Baroque architecture, a Renaissance palace and courtyards with bronze statuary, the Grandmaster's Palace, the Fort St Elmo which was originally built in 1553, and the Archbishop's Palace built in 1624. As well, while enjoying the Valetta walking tour you'll find plenty of stops along the way for a cup of rich coffee and delicious pastries. Continuing along Republic Street, you'll see the Carmelite Church, St. Paul's Cathedral, National Library of Malta, National Museums of Archeology and Fine Arts and one of the oldest theaters, Manoel Theater, built in 1731 and still in use today. End your walking tour of Valetta, Malta at the Grand Harbor overlooking the waters of the Mediterranean.

My Honeymoon in the Caribbean

Caribbean Holidays

So today I have just returned home from a lovely trip to the Caribbean. To be honest I am quite surprised that I actually ended up going, because getting there was seemed like a million miles away.

Anyhow this is my whole story of my amazing trip to the Caribbean, it all started when me and my partner decided to book somewhere for our honeymoon. The Caribbean holidays destinations looked very appealing and somewhere that we have wanted to go for a very long time.

After the great wedding we had experienced, we were so glad to be flying out to the hot islands the next day. In the morning we woke and awaited our pre booked taxi. After 30 minutes or so we started to get worried that it was not coming, we were not really that far away from the airport so decided to catch a bus.

It was an absolute shocker of a decision as we got stuck in lots of jams. I totally thought we missed our plane after turning up hours late. I think we had a great bit of luck as the departure was delayed. Yes!

Well what can I say when we got there the weather and hotel were amazing. The food was totally gorgeous and the beaches were like paradise. We have a great 2 weeks at the destination and it is definitely somewhere that I would like to visit again if I get the chance.

Anyone who is reading this I sincerely hope that if you are going on honeymoon that you consider go to any of the Caribbean islands as they are truly and utterly mind blowing. You have great weather, great beaches and great hotels and food what more could you possibly ask for.

Getting Away With the Caribbean Sun

The time of year has approached us again, the darks snappy nights have caught up on us all and its time to switch the central heating onto full power. When winter strikes you just want to stay in the warmth of your home.

But we all realistically know that this is not a viable solution as we have tasks to do and day jobs. Waking upup in the cold mornings is enough to make anyone feel sad?

Would it not be great to exchange the cold winter days for a selection of nice Caribbean holidays or any other sunny destination? Absolutely, I think it would be everyone's dream but for some people it can become a reality. Let's have a look at a few solutions that could make you skip winter:

1) Find a job that involves travelling; try to find a vacancy that will accommodate you to visit the hotter countries during the winter months.
Why not work abroads there are a lot of people looking for employees that are fluently english speakers. Although these jobs may not be a great career path or neither pay very well, it really will not matter as you will be enjoying the great sunshine and good health all year round.
3) If you are a pensioner or wealthy you could conside living abroad in a holiday home? You could spend the winter months abroad, and then come back for the summer to catch up with family and friends.
4) Try to make friends whilst on holiday, making friends is an ideal solution. Whenever you feel like a break you could give them a quick call and organise to meet up and also vice versa.

Whatever you choose, if you are fed up you should just do something about it. Thousands of people go on luxury holidays every year, there is nothing stopping you from applying for jobs and accommodation while you are visiting a country this way you can have a relaxing holiday as well as sorting out your life.

Facts About Lightweight Travel Trailers

Airstream 23' FB Flying Cloud Travel Trailer

There is a big disappointment when you want to get a small camper but you realize that lightweight travel trailers compatible with your truck are very scarce. The problem is not the diversity of models but the weight, since most of the existing designs are too heavy to get pulled by a car or a pick-up truck. Moreover, a closer look into this matter will convince you that even the RV companies whether we are talking about rental agencies or dealers have shown little interest in purchasing lightweight travel trailers. The explanation they give is very simple: the demand is lower for such recreational vehicles, and therefore it is not profitable to keep them in stock.

The bathroom plumbing adds up quite a lot to the weight of the vehicle, particularly as the ceiling design has to be altered to. Therefore, with many lightweight travel trailers the bathroom is pretty basic or non existent. There are four groups of lightweight travel trailers and they are divided as follows: the teardrops, the fiberglass eggs, the ultra-lightweights and the pop-up tent trailers. There are good bits and bad bits about each of these models: the fiberglass vehicles are less popular because of their specific smell, the teardrops are pretty crammed while the pop-ups can be used mainly in warm climates.

Lightweight travel vehicles of around 2,000 pounds could be the most convenient, but that very much depends on the individual choices and preferences. In terms of size, the interior of lightweight travel trailers looks like a small or medium-sized bedroom in the most fortunate of cases, which is between 10 and 12 feet. Such lightweight travel trailers would do for a couple, but not a family. The various models come ready furnished from factory with basic appliances including a stove and a microwave, with a very simple bathroom, with or without shower.

The amenities included as well as the overall features of the vehicle determine the price for new and used lightweight travel trailers; the costs usually reach $10,000 or somewhere around this figure. The manufacturing year and the technical inspection are also important to check when you want to buy a used recreational vehicle. If there is no dealer in your local area, check online for more comprehensive resources. The databases you consult should be updated, otherwise you may find items that are no longer in stock.

The Travel Distance Calculator

The introduction of the online travel distance calculator has made things a lot easier for journey planning.  Previously to the use of the online variant, travelers exclusively relied on maps and travel guide info in order to estimate the fuel consume and the time necessary to get from one location to another. Nowadays, you can access a huge number of sites that have a travel distance calculator incorporated, but the most well known and comprehensive include Google Maps and MapQuest. The usage mode of the travel distance calculator is basic, fundamental and almost identical in concept and function; what sets these competitors apart is the diversity of extra options adjacent to mapping systems. But there is more to it than the simple distance indication!

What can one expect from the Google travel distance calculator? There are lots of hotel reservation links as well as info that a traveler finds relevant. The formats of the travel distance calculators vary too; thus, some are designed to indicate the distances only for a specific country, while others have additional features to determine distances between cities abroad. A good illustration here is Map Crow, that functions as a tool to calculate international distances between cities: from Paris to Rome for instance, but Map Crow also allows one to make less specific calculations like those between countries.

The undeniable advantage of a travel distance calculator is that it gives the requested data in a matter of seconds, increasing work efficiency and facilitating an incredibly convenient access to information. People working in businesses that rely on the use of travel distance calculator find it a most helpful tool in a variety of applications. Thus, transport and logistic companies that operate goods transport worldwide use the travel distance calculator to find out the specific and non-specific gas consume, as well as to approximate other variables.

Last but not least, the travel distance calculator works best for drivers, since car traveling is the one that relies most on such information. For distances between countries or for itineraries that involve flying, the travel distance calculator remains an optional informative tool that has a reduced level of applicability. You will surely not check with a travel distance calculator for flying from Phoenix to Washington. Yet, there are specialized travel distance calculator models that indicate distances in air miles for instance, but such equipment is normally purchased by professional air lines as part of the operational software.

Your Options When Hiring Private Jet Charters

of private jet charters

With the increase in tighter schedules and busier lives, air travel has become an important way of life for many. From companies sending employees on business trips, to the private sector increasing air travel for vacations or family visits, the need for flight options has increased. With so many people utilizing this way of travel, complaints about the quality of commercial air travel are on the rise. In an effort to experience more comfortable accommodations, as well as better kept schedules, the demand for private jet charters and private jet flights is steadily increasing.

Many charter jet companies boast of their safety, value and convenience that consumers will experience when flying with them. These companies can arrange jet charters from anywhere in the world to cater to the needs of their clients. Consumers are able to choose their flight schedules, what type of aircraft they prefer to fly in, and even what kind of food they would like to have served. When you hire a private jet charter, the options for customizing your jet travel flight, as well as all the details involved, are seemingly endless. Some companies are even able to include up-to-the-minute weather updates, trip handling, such as arranging for ground transportation, and even the option to have a "play list" for the music or movies that will be provided during your flight.

Because the private aircraft charter industry is relatively small, when compared with commercial flights, companies servicing this industry are forced to compete with each other both in pricing, as well as service and options. Because of this, when you charter a private jet you are now able to customize your flight in more ways than ever before. These options include things such as custom catering, transportation availability at your destination, music and movie choices, and many other options that are not standard within the commercial industry. Additionally, private jet charters are striving to become more and more affordable, in an effort to attract a larger consumer base.

With the growth of the private aircraft charter industry, the number of companies that you can now choose from for your flight charters has grown significantly. With such a wide variety of services to choose from, it shouldn't be difficult to find luxury private jets at an affordable rate. Be sure to compare not only pricing, but the options made available to you as well, when dealing with private jet charters. Superior companies should be able to offer you the options you need, at a price you are comfortable with.

Runway Blockade at Stansted Airport

Interview from Stansted Protest

Protesters from the climate action group Plane Stupid have been arrested at Stansted airport after occupying a runway at around 03:15 this morning.

Over 50 flights were cancelled or delayed due to the protest which took place in a secure area near the runway. Plane stupid protesters taken away by police after 50 were accused of aggravated trespass, 3 accused of attempting to gain access to a restricted area and 4 of conspiracy to commit a public nuisance.

Protesters had gained access to the site using bolt-cutters and then built themselves a small stockade, near to the runway, using concrete blocks and security fencing. They then chained themselves to the fencing.

Earlier this year in October the UK government gave the go-ahead to controversial plans for the further expansion of Stansted Airport. The British Airports Authority who own the airport have stated that they want to increase passenger numbers from 25 million to 35 million in just one year. This would result in an increase in the number of flights from the airport from 241,000 to 264,000.

While supporters of the controversial expansion have spoken of the many new jobs that would be provided the eco-activists have reminded people of the environmental damage that would be caused. A plane flying out of Stansted airport is, on average, responsible for around 41.58 tonnes of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere.

One young female protestor said:

"We're here because our parents' generation has failed us and its now down to young people to stop climate change by whatever peaceful means we have left. We're afraid of what the police might do to us, we're afraid of going to jail but nothing scares us as much as the threat of runaway climate change. We've thought through the consequences of what we're doing here but we're determined to stop as many tonnes of CO2 as we can."

Matthew Knowles from the Society of British Aerospace Companies has stated that the protesters are ignoring the facts around aviation and climate change. He pointed out how aircraft today are 70% more fuel efficient than they were 50 years ago and went on to say that it is about time that these ill-informed protests stopped.

Another of the young Stansted airport protester said:

"We fully appreciate the scale of what we've done here today and we know many people will struggle to understand why we've done it, but the Arctic ice cap is disappearing, the seas are rising and our last chance to save our future is vanishing. With people taking more flights in Britain than anywhere else on earth, we have a unique responsibility to tackle emissions from flying."

One of the passengers whose flight was delayed by the action has said that not only did the protest break all of the safety rules, it also disrupted peoples lives. He went on to say that he hoped the authorities would treat the protestors very seriously.

When travelling from Stansted airport I recommend booking your Stansted Airport Parking space in advance for some significant savings.

Enjoy Campfire Cooking During Your Summer Holidays

One thing that is important to remember with campfire cooking is to keep it as simple as possible - especially if you are relaxing during your hard earned summer holidays. Campfire cooking is often carried out during holiday backpacking trips, where backpackers require energy filled, nourishing food, bursting with calories.

Here are the main campfire cooking methods:

Fire roasting is by far the easiest campfire cooking method, often used for hot dogs, marshmallows, or almost any other food that can be stuck on a skewer and held above an open flame. A recent fad for campfire cooking is to use long-handled iron molds, known as “pie irons” to heat sandwiches over hot coals.

Grilling food is another favorite method of campfire cooking. Use a hand-held grill to warm food, make toast, or grill burgers, meat, or vegetables. If you’re not comfortable grilling over a campfire, bring a small hibachi or kettle-style grill with you on you camping trip, and grill your food there.

Frying your food is probably the most difficult method of campfire cooking, but it can be done. The main problem with frying food on a camping trip is packing the frying pan. Frying pans are heavy, and their handles make them awkward to pack and carry. An alternative is to use a pan without a handle, and move the pan in and out of the fire with a clamping device.

Boiling food is a very common type of campfire cooking. Most fresh foods are too heavy to carry in backpacks because of their moisture content, so hikers pack dried foods that must be reconstituted in boiling water.

With the right preparation, campfire cooking can be a real pleasure and can really help to cut cost during those cheap summer holidays. Why not start planning your next trip today?
