St Andrews: Where To Stay In This Golfer's Paradise

The town of St Andrews situated on the east coast of Fife in Scotland is a place better known for being the home of golf. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club was originally founded in 1754 and rules the game of golf worldwide, with the exceptions of Mexico and America. Each year the Open Championship (the oldest golf championship) takes place at the St Andrews course.

Although it's not something you immediately associate with Scotland, the town also features a number of sandy beaches. When it comes to where to stay when visiting St Andrews whether to play a round of golf or just to relax you've got a wide choice available.  Below we take a look at just some of the accommodation that is currently available.

1.     Ardgowan Hotel – This one is situated just 180 yards from St Andrews Old Course and the University, which, like this hotel, are both in the center of the town. The building comprises two Georgian houses which have been joined together and which were designed by Sir William Playfair a renowned Scottish architect. You can choose from the hotel's 19 rooms and you can relax in the private gardens around the hotel. All the food that is served both in the bar and restaurant is local produced and of the highest quality.

2.     Links Hotel – This establishment can be found in Golf Place and is almost on top of the St Andrews Old Course 18th Hole. Dating back to 1824 the walls of this hotel have been privvy to the secrets of many of the world's eminent golfers and hosted some of the first golf tournaments in the town.  However, along with being situated so close to the famous Old Course you are only a short walk away from St Andrew’s Castle, Cathedral and University.

3.    Old Course Hotel – This is the one that when you watch the Open Championship is the one that shows as you come to the 17th Hole. It oversees the "Road Hole" and has wonderful views of the West Sands and Fife coastline. Although this is for the hotel for the keen golfer there is plenty for one to do as it comes with a luxury spa with a number of different therapy rooms one can enjoy.

4.    Russell Hotel – The Russell is a terraced house next to the Scores, has views across St Andrews Bay and the hotel has a Victorian theme. When you choose this hotel, you'll be very near the Old Course, you can be standing on the first tee within a couple minutes of the hotel or you can nip into the town centre just as easily.

5.    St Andrews Golf Hotel – Another superb choice for a game on the Old Course and your room could offer you a view of St Andrews Links as well. It has been recently refurbished and is a boutique hotel to further help you relax whilst enjoying all that the town of St Andrews and the surrounding area has to offer. If you're thinking of organizing a golfing holiday, this hotel should be on your short list.
