Reading Hotels

Reading is situated in Berkshire, where the Thames and Kennet rviers meet. It is just 30 minutes from London by train or you can drive along the motorway and head for the South West coast. Since 1867 Reading has been the county town of Berkshire and has now become famous for holding one of the largest music festivals in England today.

During the Middle Ages Reading was a very prominent town with one of the most important monasteries in the country located at it. It also had strong connections to the royal family in those days.  However, it was during the 17th Century that it saw a down turn in its fortunes and over recent years has seen it become an important commercial centre once more. Many of the main IT and insurance companies now have their headquarters based in and around the town. Reading is also a popular student town with two universities.

Because Reading is quite close London it makes an ideal base for a weekend break.  Reading hotels offer a cheaper alternative to the ones in central London. Below we look at a few of the places one can stay when visiting Reading.

The Millennium Madejski Hotel has made an impact on the town as it is an integral part of the Madejski Stadium Complex. Situated on the outskirts of Reading and only a short drive from the M4 motorway this hotel has 140 deluxe en suite rooms to choose from. Attached to the Stadium itself where not only Reading Football Club plays all their home games, and is also the home of the London Irish Rugby Club.

Although it is on the outskirts of the town, there are good transport links to the centre of town and the railway station. This is because there is a regular bus service that runs from the hotel throughout the day from early in the morning to late in the evening.  The cost of the fare is around £2 return and will drop and pick you up from outside the train station.

Another hotel to consider staying at is the Wee Waif Hotel which is located close to the Oracle Shopping Centre which is situated in the heart of Reading town. From here you are close to such attractions as Newbury Racecourse and Legoland. All the hotel's rooms are well appointed as you would expect from a modern hotel. You are also within easy reach of the varied nightlife and great restaurants that Reading has to offer.

As well as the hotels mentioned here, there are many other hotels in and around Reading which can meet your needs. You can book your next hotel in Reading here.
