Telford Hotels: Choosing Your Hotel in Telford

Telford is one of the newest towns in Shropshire. It is around thirteen miles to the east of Shrewsbury and thirty miles to the west of Birmingham. The town wa named after Thomas Telford and mainly built during the 1960's and 1970's. It was in fact created through the merging of much smaller settlements in the area namely Wellington, Oakengates, Madeley and Dawley.

Telford makes the ideal base to explore Shropshire. There is plenty of accommodation for you to choose from regardless of your budget. Below we take a look at some of the accommodation that would be worth considering staying in should you decide to spend time in Telford.

1.     Telford Golf Hotel - This is situated outside the town and overlooks Ironbridge Gorge. As well as wonderful accommodation the hotel also has very good health, fitness and spa facilities. Plus if you enjoy a round of golf then you can try out the 18 hole championship course if you wish. From here you can visit not just Telford but the beautiful Tudor market town of Shrewsbury and also visit the Museum at Ironbridge Gorge.

2.    The Lord Nelson Hotel – This is housed in a converted Grade II listed house located in the market town of Wellington which is only a short drive from Telford. Again you are close to the town of Ironbridge when you stay here and you have the opportunity not only to visit the Ironbridge Gorge Museum but also Blists Hill Working Museum. There is a railway station in Wellington and from here you can get a train either to Shrewsbury or the Welsh Coast for a fantastic day out.

3.    Telford Whitehouse Hotel – This is a luxury 4 star hotel adjacent to the AFC Telford Football Stadium. So you need to be aware on those weekends when the team are playing at home things can get a little rowdy. However, along with comfortable well appointed rooms the hotel has its own health and leisure club which you as a guest have the opportunity to use. Along with an indoor swimming pool, there is a beauty salon to pamper you. The great thing about this hotel is that it is close to all the amenities that the town of Telford has to offer its visitors.
