Milton Keynes is an English "new town". In fact it wasn't until 1967 that Milton Keynes was designated a new town. It lies in the heart of the County of Buckinghamshire and is well connected to the rest of the country and is within easy reach of Birmingham, London and Oxford.
The Best Western Moore Place Hotel is housed in a beautiful Georgian Manor house and is located in the quiet village of Aspley Guise. It is situated 8 miles from Milton Keynes and makes the ideal base if you intend to visit either Oxford, Cambridge or London. Plus it also makes the ideal base should you be traveling abroad from Heathrow Airport. If you're planning a family outing to Woburn Abbey and it's safari park, the hotel is a great place to stay before or after your visit.
The Ramada Encore is set right in the centre of Milton Keynes and the rooms are well furnished in a contemporary style. If you're staying in the summer, you'll be glad to know the rooms are air conditioned and of course they all have en-suite facilities. Due to its central location you're close to the shopping and other delights that Milton Keynes has to offer. London has regular train services throughout the day so you can have an easy trip to the capital without having to stay in it.
For something a little more unusual again away from Milton Keynes itself is Linford Stables. The farmhouse building has 8 guest rooms and is set in eight acres of Buckinghamshire countryside. Four of the rooms are inside the main farmhouse itself and the other 4 rooms are in a converted stable block. Whilst staying here there is plenty for the guests to see and do. You can just relax on the terrace by the fish pond or wandering around the farmhouse's country garden. Some of the stables are still in use, so you can also take a look at the horses as they graze in the paddocks.
The Queen Hotel in Milton Keynes caters for the more traditional visitor. This was built in 1872 and was originally a railway hotel and although it has been modernized to meet the needs of visitors to it today it still retain a lot of its original features.
This hotel is situated not actually situated in Milton Keynes, but rather in the village of Olney which is a short distance by car from it. It is located in the very heart of this Georgian Market Town and just five minutes' walk away are a wide variety of restaurants and pubs for one to enjoy. If your stay is over Shrove Tuesday the village has its annual pancake race whilst if you are staying over a weekend, be sure to visit the Farmer's Market. You'll be able to buy local produce from the very people who produce it.
The Different Drummer Hotel is found a few miles out of Milton Keynes. It can be found in Stony Straford, another local market town, this hotel has a very illustrious history. It was originally known as "The Swan With Two Necks" but the name was changed to its current one in 1982.
The Georgian stone facade of this hotel which is very elegant has remained unchanged since 1743 even though much of the town was destroyed by fire. When it was known as an inn the Different Drummer was home to the Little Princes who Richard III kept here before they were taken to be kept in the Tower of London and were finally killed.
