Hotels in Isle of Wight

Shanklin is a popular tourist destination on the Isle of Wight. It came into fashion during Queen Victoria's reign and those living in London would spend their summer holidays here. Throughout the 1800’s many new facilities were built these included the railway line between Shankin and Ryde, a cliff lift and Shanklin pier which unfortunately was lost during the Great Storm of 1987. Below, we'll take a look at just a few of the places you can stay in Shanklin.

1. Belmont – This was originally a Victorian gentleman's residence but was later turned into a hotel. It can be found in Shanklin's Old Village, it is close to the seafront and open all year round with 13 rooms that have been well decorated. The rooms within this hotel either look out towards the sea or enjoy a view of the hotel's well kept garden. There is a veranda to relax on and there is a heated outdoor pool as well.

2. Bourne Hall Hotel – This property was originally built as home for one of Queen Victoria's ladies in waiting back in the 1860's. It has three acres of gardens dating back to that time and has everything you would expect from a country house from those times as well as the facilities modern day guests have come to expect. If you want a romantic break in a tranquil location this hotel should definitely be on your shortlist.

3. Carlton Hotel – Located on the cliffs overlooking Shanklin with panoramic views of Sandown Bay. Although above Shanklin you are only a short walk away from its wonderful sandy beaches and also Shanklin's Old Village and for a refreshing walk along the esplanade. The hotel has been updated since it was built in Victorian times and you'll be well looked after during your stay here.

4. Mayfair – This is located on the Eastcliff Promenade and although the hotel faces towards the sea the gardens and terrace look out towards Nab Tower, Culver Cliff and Sandown Bay. It is within easy walking distance of the seaside beaches and the Old Village. It is also close to Shanklin Chine. If you don't want to swim in the sea, the hotel has an outdoor pool for you to use during the summer.

5. Luccombe Hall Country House Hotel – This hotel is situated in some tranquil grounds and being high up on the cliffs above Shanklin you'll be treated to fantastic sea views.
